Business Class with Emirates

I have flown business class with Emirates two times in my life and I can tell you there is nothing like seeing how the other half live, I don't normally like to write about luxury travel but I thought I should share this story with you anyway.

My first experience flying business was in 2013 when I was flying from Casablanca to Dubai, I remembered my eyes were wide open the whole flight, there was plenty of leg room, a wide screen TV, unlimited champagne and what felt like my own little booth.

The second time I was flying business class was from Dubai to Dhaka in 2017 where I was surprisingly upgraded from economy class. In this blog I will focus on my second experience as I can remember it more than the first one.

My Emirates Business Class Experience!

So my flight was taking place in February 2017, I was flying from the city of Casablanca in Morocco to Dhaka city in Bangladesh, of course via Dubai in the United Arab Emirates,

The first half of my flight was in 'Economy class' which in Emirates is not so bad, you have plenty of leg room and on board entertainment to keep you entertained for hours, much better than the cheap airlines you find flying over the skies of Europe, after spending a good few hours in the futuristic airport of Dubai, I was ready to board the plane for the second half of my journey, Dubai to Dhaka, I had just purchased a big bottle of whiskey for my father and didn't realise that I was going to be charged extra for the weight, I admit that did make me angry that I got charged an extra 60GBP, 'what was the point in allowing people to buy stuff in shops' I thought angrily in my head, so after paying the charge I went through to the desk to board to plane. "Hello Mr Woolley, you have been upgraded to business class', that was music to my ears and I was excited about that but then it hit me, if they told me that before I paid the 60GBP I wouldn't of had to pay it. Oh well, I should of got my money refunded. These are little things you learn over the years of travelling I suppose.

I was one of the first people allowed to board the plane out of everyone who was going through into economy,I held my head high and was relieved that I was going to have some space to myself for the next four hours. Walking onto the plane I had found my seat, a British business man was sitting in the booth next to me which mean I had the aisle seat, the seat itself was well cusioned along with a little pillow, I stretched my legs out in front of me and got myself comfortable for the flight ahead, I watched as my fellow passengers were making their way into economy, I noticed what airlines like Emirates do, they make people walk through the upper classes on your way into economy, probably to convince you to pay the extra money in the future. A cabin crew lady came round with a tray of hot, wet face towels which I rubbed over my skin on my face and my neck which felt so relaxing. (This is available in economy as well).

The plane rumbled down the runway of Dubai Intl' Airport and then we had lift off, we travelled through the small clouds over the desert country, I could see the view from the window as well as the under plane camera view on my big screen, I was able to see all the little houses and the big mansions under the plane which eventually turned to the sand of the desert, the view from the window was of course of the city, I could see the famous landmarks of Dubai such as the 'Burj al Arab' and the 'Burj Kalifa' which is known to be the current tallest building in the world. It wasn't long before we were flying over the Indian Ocean on our way to Bangladesh as the UAE is quite a rather small country.

One of my favourite little experiences about business class is that you can basically have unlimited drinks, so my special choice would have to be one of the more expensive drinks on the menu, which would be the champagne, I could say that I was proper milking my four hours on the plane with the free champagne, I became a little tipsy for most of the flight.

Lunch was soon available, in economy y0u w0uld have your food in the little tin boxes which are still delicious on Emirates, but in business you have your food on a proper plate. After looking on the menu, I went for the mushroom soup for starters, along with a beef, vegetable and rice main course with pepper and olive oil on the side, followed wih a very sweet tasting lemon tart with strawberry sauce next to it.

I spent most of my time with my chair in bed mode which doesn't effect the person behind you, it felt like as if I was watching a movie in bed at home, but with my own personal butlers.

As we were approaching the western coast of India, the evening had already started to spread across the sky, the blue sky turned a slight purple as the sun started to descend towards the horizon. I gazed out at the orange sun over India whilst listening to Yusuf Islam's (Cat Stevens) album, it was a rather relaxing moment of the trip, of course the eighth champagne helped with that.

Before I knew it we were slowly approaching Dhaka, the orange glow from the sun lit up the walls of the buildings, the congested city looks absoloutely beautiful from the air and it was a city I had missed, I had been living there for nearly two years before I had to move, it felt good to be back.

The plane touched down at 'Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport' which is the main international airport in the country, as I was in business class, I was allowed to exit the plane before the passengers in economy, I said goodbye to the smiling cabin crew who stood at the door and I made my way into the airport, the heat in the air immediately hits you. After some time standing in the line for the immigration desk to get the visa on arrival I was finally out of the airport and in the bustling streets of Dhaka, where my father's driver came to greet me from the main door, which was lucky because I was still a little drunk from the flight, to make your way through a city like Dhaka whilst intoxicated makes for a very interesting quest to find your way home.

So that was one of my experiences flying 'Emirates Business Class', I highly recommend it to anyone to try and experience this kind of luxury.

I hoped you enjoyed the blog!
